Join us for the 11th annual York Design Awards presentation in categories covering residential, community and commercial buildings, and open spaces. York Design Awards promotes excellence in architectural design and conservation in the York area. Good sustainable design and conservation support the city’s special heritage and contribute to the well-being of its residents and visitors.
The winners are announced of the eleventh annual York Design Awards. Entries to the awards are in categories covering residential, community and commercial schemes, large or small, and open spaces. This flagship event includes the presentation of plaques to the winning schemes chosen by a distinguished panel of independent judges, along with a special Lord Mayor’s Award and the People’s Award which is voted for by readers of the York Press. The accompanying exhibition showcases all the 2017 entries. Now in its eleventh year, York Design Awards promotes and advocates excellence in architectural design in and around the City of York. Excellent architectural design creates a sympathetic environment for people to live in, work in or visit. What is designed and built now will stand for generations and should make a positive contribution to the centuries of York’s heritage. In conserving and renovating precious buildings from the past and in designing worthy successors for the present and future, we recognise the contribution of good design to enriching people’s lives.

The racecourse is signposted with Brown Road signs from the ring road
Upon arrival to the racecourse, parking is along the main road (marked and clear bays). All parking is complimentary. Disabled bays are available by the main entrance on a first come first served basis.
Entrance is via the Marble Entrance, from which there will be signage directing guests.

York Design Awards celebrate and encourage good design in the city. Good architecture and sensitive building restoration play an important part in what makes York such a special place, routinely topping UK cities’ quality of life surveys.
York Design Awards’ mission is to support that for the future and to encourage designers of new developments in the city to maintain the very highest standards – to create buildings and spaces that ‘delight’.
The York Design Awards aims to recognise the importance of new construction and landscape projects in the city, celebrating ‘the spaces in between’, the setting of buildings plus open space and public realm.
The principal aim of the York Design Awards is to encourage architects, developers, owners, planners, conservationists, to aspire to, achieve, and ensure excellence in new build and in conservation schemes within the City of York Council local authority boundary (completed within the previous three years).
